PROGRAM: “IPD & Potential Legal Pitfalls”

Integrated Project Delivery (IPD), similar to Building Information Modeling (BIM), is cutting edge and forecasted to be a
wave of the future. It is the result of a convergence of opportunities brought about by technology and business process
innovation. IPD is, in short, a collaborative alliance of people, systems, business structures and practices used to
optimize project results, increase value to the owner, reduce waste, and maximize efficiency. Huh? How is it different
from traditional project delivery and contracting methods? How is it being used on construction projects? How is it
good for all parties involved? Lastly, what are the potential legal pitfalls? Bring your colleagues and find out more about
IPD and how it can affect you or your company.

About the Speaker:

Diane Utz started out her career as a Construction Manager, working for a large commercial contractor for 9 years on
projects that ranged from $1.5M - $125M in Colorado, California, Oregon, and Washington. After getting relocated 8
times in 4 years, she chose Seattle and worked for Lease Crutcher Lewis. A year later, she took a position with a local
law firm as an in-house construction consultant. After five years as a consultant, she went to law school and is now a
lawyer focusing on construction contracts and litigation at Watt, Tieder, Hoffar & Fitzgerald. Watt Tieder is one of the
largest construction law firms in the country with its main office in the Washington DC area. It opened its doors in
Seattle in March 2010, working with contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and owners to be proactive in the
contracting process and to help prevent disputes, or solve problems when disputes do arise on projects.
